In the realm of portraiture, the eyes of the subject are of great importance. They contain unique attributes that help to distinguish a person as an individual, and they are able to convey a wide variety of emotions. For this reason, I wanted to experiment to see how a subject would be interpreted if his eyes and other distinguishing features were cast in shadows. I found that this technique made an individual appear anonymous, mysterious, quiet, ghostlike, and/or threatening.
